NC High School Graduation Requirements Students entering Grade 9 must earn at least 22 credits and satisfy the following subject/course requirements: English 4 - English I, II, III, IV Mathematics - 4 NC Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, plus a fourth math course aligned with what you plan to do after high school (college, work, etc.). Science 3 - 1 Physical Science, Biology, and 1 Earth/Environmental science course. History 4 - Founding Principles of the U.S. & NC: Civic Literacy, Economics & Personal Finance, American History, and World History. Health & Physical Education 1 - Also includes CPR instruction. Electives 5 - Split into two groups: • 2 elective credits from: Career & Technical Education (CTE), Arts Education, or World Language. • 4 elective credits from CTE, ROTC, Arts, or any courses (including cross‑disciplinary, dual enrollment, etc.). Note: beginning in 2026‑27, one credit will also be required in Computer Science, reducing elective slots.
